Why We Exist
The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound emotional impact on children, adolescents, and families even among those who did not meet the criteria for a clinical diagnosis. The uncertainty, fear, and disruption associated with the pandemic led to increased anxiety, worry, sadness, and irritability.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic began, youth and families have experienced a profound and multifaceted impact on their mental health, often described as a "collective trauma". While many showed resilience, a significant portion faced lasting psychological shifts due to disruptions in safety, routine, and social connection.
Familites in Solano County face significant trauma, including high rates of exposure to community violence, abuse, and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). These experiences often cause toxic stress, leading to, or exacerbating, behavioral issues, mental health crises, and involvement in the juvenile justice system.
What We Do
We work by changing our outlook on life. Through health and fitness, we strive to build resilience into the lives of youth and families. We work to improve lives by strengthening the integration of behavioral health services in youth and adults through fitness. By combining structured physical activity with mental health support, such as embedding therapy in sports, using exercise to manage anxiety, and promoting daily, mindful movement we believe we can improve the lives of those around us.
